Abweg-Installation

Deutsch:

The installation „Abweg,“ designed for public spaces, was initially conceived with the intention of easy assembly and disassembly. After its first installation at the main train station in Hannover, it found its home for two years at the MS Artville premises in Hamburg. Subsequently, it resided in the Uferpark/Wilhelmsburg for several years before being acquired by the Deji Art Museum in Nanjing in 2020.

The excerpt from the Hannover train station website describes the idea quite well:

„…here, the installation ‚Abweg‘ by the Hamburg artist Darko Caramello Nikolic invites awe. When viewed head-on, the sculpture appears like a painting, with rainbow colors gently transitioning towards the center. However, with just a step to the side, the artwork reveals itself as a kind of tunnel construction that can even be entered. As the name suggests, it aims to distract visitors, travelers, and the curious from their path and immerse them for a moment in the colorful play of colors…“

Graphic shapes and optical illusions
„…the goal is to open up new perspectives on the familiar and break free from familiar viewpoints. The success of this can now be observed at Ernst-August-Platz as well…“
