In einem Produktionszeitraum von über vier Jahren hat der Künstler Darko C. Nikolic 36 großformatige Gemälde geschaffen, mit denen er der Untersuchung von Form- und Farb- wirkung nach dem Vorbild konstruktivistischer Malerei nachgeht. Dieser so entstandene Werkzyklus Archetypes of Concrete Art wurde 2022 erstmalig im vollen Umfang von der MeetFrida Foundation präsentiert.
D.C. Nikolic setzte sich in der Werkreihe gezielt mit kunsthistorisch etablierten, grundlegenden Form- und Farbsystemen auseinander, um deren jeweiligen Wirkkräfte zu studieren – einzeln und im Zusammenspiel miteinander. Dieses beeindruckende Gesamtkunstwerk ist in seiner methodischen Konsequenz bisher einzigartig.
Durch die erstmalige gemeinsame Ausstellung aller Werke im MeetFrida Art Space eröffnet sich ein komplexes Vergleichssystem der strikten Formensprache und Farbgestaltung. Somit wird der Ausstellungsraum durch die Arbeiten Nikolics zu einem Ort der Erforschung und Selbsterfahrung.

In a production period of over four years, the artist Darko C. Nikolic created 36 large-scale paintings that explore the effects of form and color, following the example of Constructivist painting. This resulting cycle of works, Archetypes of Concrete Art, was presented in its entirety for the first time by the MeetFrida Foundation in 2022.
D.C. Nikolic deliberately engaged with art historically established, fundamental systems of form and color in this series of works, in order to study their respective powers of effect – individually and in combination with one another. This impressive body of work is so far unique in its methodical consistency.
The first joint exhibition of all the works in the MeetFrida Art Space opens up a complex system of comparison of strict formal language and color design. Thus, the exhibition space becomes a place of exploration and self-discovery through Nikolic’s works.

Die Erforschung von Farbe und Form in einem fest begrenzten formalen Rahmen ist der Ausgangspunkt der Werkreihe Archetypes of Concrete Art.
Sechs Motive werden in jeweils sechs Farbvarianten in insgesamt 36 großformatigen Bildern mit den Maßen 170 x 170 cm durchdekliniert.
Die Variationen bieten die Möglichkeit, den Aspekten der Form und Farbgebung zu vergleichen und der Frage nachzugehen, warum die gleiche Farbzusammenstellung in einer anderen Formgebung so anders wirkt.
Alle Motive entspringen der kunstgeschichtlichen Tradition. Sie bilden die Grundthemen Konkreter Kunst und finden sich über die Jahrzehnte im Werk von Künstlern wie Agnes Mar- tin, Frank Stella, Bridget Riley und Gerhard Richter. Bisher hat jedoch keine*r dieser Künst- ler*innen die Möglichkeit einer konsequenten und kalkulierten Werkabfolge realisiert. Darko C. Nikolic hat somit ein einzigartiges, konzeptuelles Gesamtkunstwerk geschaffen
Archetypes of Concrete Art setzt sich gezielt mit den optischen und in zweiter Instanz auch emotionalen Wirkungen, die von Farbe und Form forciert werden, auseinander.
Als Schule des Sehens und Empfindens kann der Betrachter sich im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes in die Farbräume der 36 großformatigen Arbeiten begeben, sich zwischen ihnen bewegen und von einer Form in die nächste eintauchen. Als Studienobjekt für ein breites Publikum gedacht, ist diese Arbeit nicht in Einzelteilen verkäuflich, sondern als Konvolut für einen öffentlichen Ort konzipiert.

The exploration of color and form within a strictly defined formal framework is the starting point for the series of works called Archetypes of Concrete Art. Six motifs are declinated in six color variations each, resulting in a total of 36 large-format paintings with the dimensions of 170 x 170 cm.
The variations offer the opportunity to compare aspects of form and color, and to investigate why the same color composition appears so different in another form.
All motifs originate from the historical tradition of art. They form the fundamental themes of Concrete Art and have been present in the works of artists such as Agnes Martin, Frank Stella, Bridget Riley, and Gerhard Richter over the decades. However, none of these artists have realized the possibility of a consistent and calculated series of works. Thus, Darko C. Nikolic has created a unique conceptual work of art.
Archetypes of Concrete Art deliberately examines the optical and, secondarily, emotional effects that are intensified by color and form.
As a school of seeing and feeling, the viewer can literally immerse themselves in the color spaces of the 36 large-format works, move between them, and dive from one form into the next. Intended as a study object for a broad audience, this work is not for sale in individual parts but is designed as a set for a public place.
